The Knight Center trains student and professional journalists to cover the environment. It was founded in 1994 when the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation created the nationÂ’s first endowed chair in environmental journalism.

Das Institut für Umweltkommunikation gehört neben weiteren Instituten zum Fachbereich Umweltwissenschaften, der 1996 an der Universität Lüneburg gegründet wurde. Im Mittelpunkt von Forschung und Lehre steht das Leitbild der Nachhaltigkeit.
