Dear Colleague,
Thank you to all participating organizations, presenters and individual attendees who have helped make EnviroInfo-2006 a very successful and dynamic event. To document the broad range of activities, a number of online resources are now available: slides of keynote speeches, supplemental material from selected workshops, as well as a collection of photos taken during the conference. Additional copies of the proceedings can be ordered from the publisher (ISBN 3-8322-5321-1): K Tochtermann, A Scharl (Eds): Managing Environmental Knowledge - Proceedings of the 20th International Conference on Informatics for Environmental Protection. Graz, 6-8 September 2006. Aachen: Shaker.
The Carbon Offset Project, initiated in conjunction with EnviroInfo-2006 and relying on the participants' donations (doubled by the Know-Center and Graz University of Technology's Knowledge Management Institute), yielded €600 that will enable the Tropical Station La Gamba to plant a total of 40 trees as part of a project to establish biological corridors in the southwestern part of Costa Rica.
EnviroInfo-2006 also turned out to be a great place to gather initial support for the "Climate Change Collaboratory", a community platform that targets scientific instituions, the commercial world, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) – stakeholders often divided by differing worldviews, goals and agendas. The collaboratory is part of the IDIOM Project (Information Diffusion across Interactive Online Media), which was officially launched earlier this month. One of the upcoming newsletters will present more detailed information on the platform, including an invitation to join the initiative.
With best regards,
The ECOresearch Team
