The complexity of Web portals requires an implementation of an integrated maintenance management. Ecoradar represents a portal in the domain of sustainability and environmental management. The portal‘s system with its components can be divided into six layers: Hardware, Operating System, Database and Application Providing, Application, Presentation and Security. Each of the portal’s components has to be maintained.
Next to the general components of a portal, the ‘application framework’ of Ecoradar represents the essential part for developing sustainability and environmental tools (‘EcoTools’). The application framework consists of three parts: EcOObjects, as a software class framework for developing environmental management software, EcoAvatar, as an instrument for a multimedia environmental communication and EcoWizards, as a computer aided and interactive completion of checklists of the environmental management. The system architecture of Ecoradar can also be used as a blueprint for a portal’s planning and implementation. Persons responsible for the web portal’s management can obtain background information, especially for portals in the domain of environmental management.
The next steps will be to transfer Ecoradar in an international context, the implementation of an open source community and the creation of EcoWebServices. Also the EcoAvatar will be developed further.
